CARICOM IMPACS strengthens regional security with St. Kitts and Nevis

On Wednesday, 30 October 2024, the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the Organization of American States (OAS) welcomed a high-level delegation from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) for a pivotal discussion on regional security priorities.
Lt. Col. Michael Jones, Executive Director, CARICOM IMPACS, along with Ms. Tonya Ayow, Deputy Executive Director, and Mr. Terrance Roopchan, Acting Manager, CARICOM Crime and Gun Intelligence Unit (CGIU), met with Her Excellency Jacinth Henry-Martin, Ambassador of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United States and Permanent Representative to the OAS, along with other members of the St. Kitts and Nevis mission.
This high-level meeting provided a strategic platform for addressing key security concerns affecting both the Caribbean and the broader hemisphere, emphasizing the shared commitment to strengthening regional safety. The discussions highlighted the importance of cross-border cooperation, intelligence-sharing, and unified strategies to counteract transnational crime, including illicit trafficking, organised crime, and emerging threats that impact the region's stability.
With St. Kitts and Nevis serving as the Chair of the OAS Committee on Hemispheric Security for the 2024-2025 term, this dialogue underscored the critical need for cohesive, collaborative action to bolster security resilience across the Americas. Both parties reiterated the value of ongoing partnerships and interagency collaboration to develop comprehensive solutions that address complex security challenges and enhance regional stability.
Through this productive exchange, CARICOM IMPACS and the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis reaffirmed their dedication to regional cooperation and their mutual goal of fostering a safer and more secure future for all citizens of the Americas.
