Strengthening Regional Security Cooperation: French Gendarmerie Engages with CARICOM IMPACS’ JRCC
17 April 2026
CARICOM IMPACS’ Joint Regional Communications Centre (JRCC) hosted representatives of the French Gendarmerie on 11–12 April 2026 in Barbados, marking a key milestone following the recent signing of an information‑sharing agreement between the two organisations. The agreement was formally concluded at the CARICOM IMPACS Headquarters in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on 22 January 2026.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the visiting delegation to interact directly with JRCC personnel and gain a comprehensive understanding of CARICOM IMPACS’ operational architecture. Discussions and briefings highlighted how the JRCC functions alongside complementary units, including the Advance Cargo Information System (ACIS), maritime surveillance operations, the Policy, Innovation and Intelligence Unit (PIU), and other specialised entities operating under the CARICOM IMPACS framework.
This engagement was instrumental in promoting transparency, building mutual trust, and aligning operational procedures—key prerequisites for effective international information exchange. By deepening familiarity with each agency’s capabilities and workflows, the visit strengthened the foundation for timely intelligence sharing and coordinated responses to complex transnational crime threats, including organised crime, maritime security risks, and illicit trafficking.
The visit underscores a shared commitment by CARICOM IMPACS and the French Gendarmerie to collaborative security partnerships, recognising that regional and international cooperation is essential to addressing evolving security challenges that transcend national borders.
