Biography - Brigadier Roderick Williams ​

Brigadier Roderick Williams is currently double hatted as the National Coordinator for Plan Secure

Jamaica in the Office of the National Security Advisor (ONSA) and the Brigade Commander of the

Maritime, Air and Cyber Command of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).  In his role at the Office of the National Security Advisor, he is responsible for the detailed planning and coordination of the implementation of the multi-sectoral Plan Secure Jamaica across its several thematic components including citizen security, cybersecurity, maritime security etc., towards the realisation of a more safe, secure, cohesive and just society.  The JDF brigade-level formation he commands is responsible for delivering strategic capabilities primarily in the maritime, air and cyber domains geared at, among other things, safeguarding Jamaica’s interests from threats emanating within or through those domains.

Brigadier Williams has benefitted from numerous professional courses, programmes and experiences throughout his career across the full range of existing and emergent Defence, National Security and International Security issues at leading institutions in the Defence and Security sectors spanning the

Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australasia. Brigadier Williams holds an MA in Defence Studies from King’s College London; an MSc in Computer-Based Management Information Systems and a BSc in Management Studies (Major) and Accounting (Major) from the University of the West Indies. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership from the UK’s Chartered Management Institute.

 

Brigadier Williams is the recipient of the following honours, decorations and awards:  the Order of

Distinction (Officer Class); Medal of Honour for Meritorious Service; Medal of Honour for General

Service (Haiti), the Medal of Honour for Long Service and Good Conduct, First Bar to the Medal of

Honour for Meritorious Service and First Bar to the Medal of Honour General Service (Jamaica); the

Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and the United Nations Peace-Keeping Medal (Haiti).

 

His current interests include emergent transnational threats, cyberspace, strategic thought, maritime security, citizen security and the notion of cyberspace warfare.  Brigadier Williams is married to Nicole and they have four young children.
