The Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) has officially recognised Lt. Col. Michael Jones, Executive Director, CARICOM IMPACS, for his transformative contributions to hemispheric security. The prestigious IADB Medal was awarded to Col. Jones in recognition of his career-long dedication to regional stability and his visionary leadership at CARICOM IMPACS.

On 24 March 2026, during the 1484th Ordinary Meeting held at the historic Simón Bolívar Hall within the Organization of American States (OAS), the IADB convened a high-level ceremony to bestow its highest honour. The IADB Medal is awarded in recognition of exceptional contributions to the strengthening of security and defence across the Americas. As the Board's most esteemed distinction, this award is reserved for individuals and institutions that have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the stability and collective protection of the continent.

The IADB highlighted Col. Jones’ ability to align regional security goals with global standards, citing his work as a benchmark for multilateral cooperation in the Western Hemisphere.

Under his leadership, CARICOM IMPACS has embraced a transformative strategic plan, defining its commitment to the United Nation (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 16 and 17 through the guiding motto: “Mutual Security through Partnership”. The Agency has grown exponentially, increasing its regional and international partnerships, expanding game changing systems in areas of maritime, cyber and environmental security. He can be credited with the vision for the establishment of the CARICOM Crime Gun Intelligence Unit (CCGIU) bringing it from a dream to a successful reality, one that is being looked at by other regions for implementation.

"This recognition from the IADB is a testament to the collective strength of the Caribbean Region," said Col. Jones. "Our mission has always been to enhance cooperative defence capabilities to ensure a stable and resilient hemisphere. I am honored to accept this award on behalf of the dedicated professionals at CARICOM IMPACS who turn our regional security goals into reality every day", he added.
