The Conference is being held from the 13 – 17 May 2024, in Belize City, Belize under the theme: “Improving Regional Security through Stronger Law Enforcement Cooperation.” Representing CARICOM IMPACS is Ms. Tonya Ayow, Deputy Executive Director and Mr. Terrance Roopchan, Manager (Ag.)/Investigator, CARICOM Crime Gun Intelligence Unit (CGIU).
Ms. Ayow said the ACCP AGM and Conference is an excellent opportunity for security practitioners to interact with partners from regional and international law enforcement entities to discuss mechanisms in the fight against crime.
Every year, the ACCP AGM and Conference brings together representatives from CARICOM and Commissioners of Police from 18 Caribbean countries which make up its membership. This year, discussions at the Conference are focusing on various strategies, which Caribbean countries can employ to tackle entrance of illegal drugs and weapons into countries, regional gun and gang violence in the Caribbean, as well as transnational crime.
Established in 1987 in Castries, St. Lucia, the ACCP’s objectives are to promote collaboration and cooperation in the development and execution of policing strategies, systems and procedures; capacity building of police officers; and implementation of proactive, sustainable measures to prevent crime and enhance police-community relations.
