From1 to 3 November, AIRCOP coordinated the first inter-regional meeting to combat trafficking in persons by air in Dubai, jointly with the Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates and other UNODC projects. More than 70 specialized law enforcement officers and prosecutors discussed the challenges in detecting, investigating and prosecuting trafficking in persons when committed by air. Participants came from 15 countries in Eastern Africa, the Middle East and the Gulf. Experts from Australia, Belgium and Emirates airlines presented their initiatives to better detect traffickers and identify victims at airports. Potential solutions include stronger cooperation with airlines and between airports, including through AIRCOP.
